UNESCO-IESALC calls the 8th Meeting for University Networks and Councils of Chancellors in Latin America and the Caribbean

Since 2006, UNESCO´s International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNESCO-IESALC) celebrates the Meeting for University Networks and Councils of Chancellors in Latin America and the Caribbean. This year, the 8th encounter will take place at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil on August 28th and 29th under the motto: “regional higher education (HE) ahead of the sustainable development goals”.

UNESCO-IESALC called the university networks and councils of chancellors –which represent close to1600 higher education institutions- as well as various actors in the field of HE in the region, to participate in this 8th meeting. The encounter will serve to articulate strategies about different projects and activities they carry out in the region, based on the 7th Meeting held in Guanajuato (Mexico) in 2015 and calling for the UNESCO Education Global Agenda 2030.

In the same way, networks proposals related to the thematic contents of the 3rd Regional Conference on Higher Education (CRES 2018) -which will be held in June, 2018 in Cordoba, Argentina- will be analyzed, reflecting the interest they have in supporting and participating in this regional meeting of great relevance.

The exchanges and results of the debates to be held in Porto Alegre will allow the development and strengthen of HE in Latin America and the Caribbean, ahead of the progresses made to date but also ahead the challenges that still remain.
